The Association is the professional trade organization for more than 12,000 Realtors® in Mecklenburg, Iredell, Alexander and Haywood counties. The organization owns Canopy MLS, Canopy Real Estate Institute and Canopy Housing Foundation. 

In 2019, the Association and its subsidiaries moved into a new four-story headquarters at 1120 Pearl Park Way in Charlotte and adopted Canopy branding to unify its entities. The Association’s tagline is “Opportunity resides here,” and the organization is governed by the Canopy Realtor® Association Board of Directors. 

CEO of the Association is Anne Marie DeCatsye, who has served in this role since February 1, 2001. She was the general counsel for the Association for seven months prior to her appointment as CEO, Before that, DeCatsye was deputy director of the Real Estate and Building Industry Coalition from 1995 to 2000.

Established in 1950, Canopy MLS serves more than 20,000 Realtors® in North and South Carolina by providing real estate listings, marketing tools, market information, virtual home tours, a showing service, tax information, lockboxes and other services. 

Canopy MLS has its own Board of Directors, reflecting leadership from associations who receive the service. Anne Marie DeCatsye is CEO of Canopy MLS.

As of mid-May 2021, Canopy MLS serves 12 Realtor® associations.

  • Canopy Realtor® Association (Mecklenburg, Iredell, Haywood and Alexander counties. Alexander does not include Wittenburg Township.)

  • Union County Association of Realtors® (Union, Anson)

  • Gaston Association of Realtors® (Gaston)

  • Central Carolina Association of Realtors® (Cabarrus, Montgomery, Stanly)

  • Lincoln County Board of Realtors® (Lincoln)

  • Hendersonville Board of Realtors® (Henderson, Polk)

  • Land of the Sky Association of Realtors® (Buncombe, Madison, Transylvania)

  • Burke County Board of Realtors® (Burke)

  • McDowell Board of Realtors® (McDowell)

  • Salisbury/Rowan Association of Realtors® (Rowan)

  • Catawba Valley Association of Realtors® (Catawba, Caldwell)

  • Piedmont Regional Association of Realtors® (York, Lancaster, Chester)

Founded in 1972, Canopy Real Estate Institute is one of the oldest and most successful continuously operating real estate schools in North Carolina.

The Institute offers licensing (pre and post), continuing education, designation and certificate courses for people seeking to begin or advance real estate careers in North and South Carolina. Staff and instructors are accomplished real estate professionals who teach classes weekdays, evenings and weekends for the convenience of students. 

“Let our experience be your best teacher” has been the Institute’s motto since it began.

Canopy Realtor® Association members address community housing needs and advocate for fair and affordable housing through their Canopy Housing Foundation. The Foundation provides funding, education, advocacy and leadership, and its Board of Directors consists of Realtors® as well as community representatives.  

Among the Foundation’s signature programs are Realtors® Care Day, the Strides for Shelter 5K Run/Walk, Project R.E.A.C.H. and annual grants programs to support Habitat for Humanity and other community organizations. 

Since Realtors® Care Day began in 2009, it has had an impact of more than $1 million in meeting critical housing needs through 2020. The grants programs supporting Habitat and other community organizations have totaled more than $630,000 from 2008 through 2020.
